The Rev. Dr. Roger Sherwood Pastoral Counselor Dr. Sherwood first came to Muncie 30 years ago to be the executive director of the Interchurch Counseling Center, a not-for-profit, community churches sponsored service for people of all income groups. He directed the ICC for more than 20 years, as well as served as pastor of a local United Church of Christ (UCC) for 10 years. The last 7 years of his ministry were spent as the pastor of a UCC church in Michigan. He and his wife Mary returned to Muncie to retire in 2007 and joined First Presbyterian soon after. Prior to his ministry in Muncie, Roger worked 7 years as a counselor and a trainer of marriage and family counselors for the Salvation Army Family Service of Los Angeles County. He has pastured UCC churches in Missouri, Indiana, and Michigan. Roger holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin, a Master of Divinity degree from Eden Theological Seminary in Webster Grove, Missouri, and a Doctor of Theology degree in pastoral care and counseling from The Claremont School of Theology in Claremont, California. He is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and has been licensed as a marriage and family counselor in California and Indiana. Roger is also a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and a Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. Roger believes that the church’s pastoral care and counseling ministry is one of the essential ministries of the church, that helping individuals, couples, and families with emotional and relational problems to heal and be reconciled to self, spouse, and family is an important expression of God’s love as it was made manifest in Jesus Christ. He believes that in loving hurting persons we live Jesus’ commandments to love God and our neighbors. |
