Friday Details

Walls, windows, exterior doors, and trusses to be complete today!

(Call for framing inspection!)

1. Set Walls

a. Use Sequence as marked, outside walls followed by inside walls

b. Nail with 16d nails: Note floor joist marked w/fluorescent spray dots for nailing location

c. As exterior walls are erected, set diagonal bracing at all wall connections, and in the center of each wall, plumb & level with 6’ level

d. As interior walls are erected, mark intersection w/exterior wall on top plate for double top plate measuring and installation

e. Install pre-cut 2”x 4” double top plates perpendicular to the exterior walls labeled corresponding to interior wall

2. Install Band Board - 7/16” OSB

a. This can be done simultaneously with interior walls

b. Pre-cut boards that will be installed directly underneath wall sections

c. Secure with 8d nails

3. *Put Tub/ Shower unit in place

a. Install @ time of interior wall placement

b. Confirm that R13 insulation batts are installed behind tub prior to setting

4. Set Trusses

a. Use 24” on center template spacers and secure rafter peaks w/1”x 3” x 4’1½” lapping 3 trusses

b. Toe nail with 16d nails

c. Install hurricane clips with 1½” galvanized joist hanger nails

d. Install fly rafters (2”x 6”x 14’) with pre-cut out riggers. Rear: 2”x4”x 38½” Front: 2”x 4”x 37”. Secure with 16d

e. Install truss rat runs 2”x 4” (removed wall bracing), overlapping 2 trusses per run

f. Install 2”x 6” sub-fascia

5. * Install Kitchen Blocking & Attic Access Frame

a. Top kitchen block at 85½” & bottom block at 59” (chalk line & place block below line)

b. Access Frame is 24” x 22½”

6. Install House Wrap

a. Staple using hammer stapler

b. Maintain a smooth surface, minimizing wrinkles. Keep roll tight and level

c. Upon completion diagonally cut through the window and door openings and fold the Tyvek into the house. Staple and trim accordingly

7. Hang Windows

a. Plumb & level

b. Secure with 1 ½” roofing nails filling all exposed nail slots

c. Use Dry-Flash tape encompassing all exterior nail flanges; Installation sequence is as follows: Bottom / Sides / Top

8. Hang Exterior Doors

a. Caulk door at bottom threshold only , using 10.5 oz Alex+

b. Secure with 12d galvanized casing nails through the door jamb to rough opening and 16d galvanized casing nails through exterior brick mold

9. Begin Porch Framing

a. Measure and secure header/joist hangers aligned to corresponding pillars

b. Install temporary header bracing using 2”x 4”

c. Build support boxes to receive the fiberglass post

1. Rough-In Electrical / Plumbing / HVAC

a. Performed by Subcontractors

2. Begin Siding & Soffit

a. Install F-Channel on exterior wall OSB with 1¼” roofing nails ¾” below bottom of sub-fascia squared to exterior wall using a framing square: String a chalk line from corner to corner and snap in 10’-20’ sequences for accuracy. Make the measurement below the gable roof sheating 6⅛” with a speed square flush against the bottom of the roof OSB.

b. Install outside corner caps with 1¼” roofing nails butted up against the soffit F-Channel. Measure all 4 corners to determine the longest point at bottom of the band board and add 1”. Cut all 4 channels to the longest measured length.

c. Determine the lowest point of the wall that will be sided; from that point, measure up ¼” less than the width of the starter strip and partially drive a nail at one corner. String a chalk line from corner to corner and snap in 10’-20’ sequences for accuracy using either a 4’ level or line level to verify levelness.

d. Measure soffit from outside edge of sub-fascia to inside of F-Channel. Interlock pieces and pull snug and secure with one 1¼” roofing nail per piece on bottom side of sub-fascia board

3. Sheath Roof - ½” OSB

a. Use “H” clips between trusses

b. Use 8d nails: 6” on center at edges, 12” on center throughout

4. Install 15# felt paper

a. Use T50 staples in hammer staplers to secure felt

b. Follow-up with the Tin Tab magnetic hammer stapler to secure bottom and outer edges of felt

5. *Build Back/Side Deck 54”W x 42”D (ledger 51”)

a. Set four 4”x 4” corner posts 18-24” deep with ½ bag of Quickrete per post

6. Frame Porch Ceiling

a. Use 2”x 4” to frame accordingly to support the soffit material

7. Custom Cut & Install Fiberglass Porch Post w/Caps

8. Insulate walls

a. Install R13 kraft faced pre-cut insulation batts

b. Cut around electrical / mechanical boxes

c. Staple the kraft facing to the corresponding inside 2”x 4”wall studs using T50 staples every 6-12”

Painting should be completed today!

1. Install trim & Window Jamb Extensions

a. Nail with 18V Dewalt Cordless nailer w/2¼” finish nails

b. Stuff insulation prior to installing trim

2. Install Interior Doors & Bi-fold Jambs

a. Temporarily nail off with 18V Dewalt Cordless

b. Finish nail with #8 or #10 finishing nails

c. Bi-fold vertical jambs should finish cut to 80.25”

d. Bi-fold knobs placed 36” from bottom of door & 1½” from center of fold on pivot panel

3. Install bedroom closets, linen closet, and pantry shelving

a. Bedroom cleats set at 5’6” to top

b. Laundry cleats set at 5’ 4” to top

4. Prime Walls & Doors

a. Use Valspar Prep-Step Interior Latex Wallboard Primer

b. Wait one hour after primer before applying first coat of interior finish paint

5. Finish Coat Paint

a. Use Valspar Medallion Eggshell Off-White finish coat

b. If second coat is required wait on hour between coats

6. Install Vinyl Flooring in Kitchen / Front & Back Entrance Doors / Bathroom / and Furnace Room

2. Insulate Attic

a. Use blower and (16 bags) for R30 Johns-Manville insulation

b. One person in attic with 2 people feeding the blower

3. Install Cabinets

a. Begin with upper cabinets 12” from ceiling

b. Use R4 Multi-purpose #10 x 3⅛” star head screws w/#25 bit

c. Use kitchen layout provided

4. *Second Coat of Paint

a. Apply second coat of interior paint if required

5. Install Bathroom Fixtures

a. Position and install towel bars, etc.

b. Install 24” towel bar opposite the toilet at 54”

c. Install 18” towel bar above the toilet at 54”

d. Install towel ring 48” next to vanity

6. Landscape

a. Grade for proper drainage, add topsoil if required

b. Install shrubs & plantings in designated area & mulch beds

c. Install railroad ties around driveway

2. Final Inspection / QC

a. Inspect faucet and drain functionality and adjust shower temperature if required

b. Inspect all light switches and lights for proper use

c. Inspect bi-fold door functionality

3. Dedicate Home

a. Thank all of the volunteers that made the “Vision a Reality”!
