Gishler Scholarships Awarded at First Presbyterian Church

 

Five high school seniors are recipients of this year’s Lewis Weber Gishler Memorial Scholarship.  Friends, family and former parishioners created the scholarship in Dr. Gishler’s name to further expand his commitment to education and excellence.  The scholarship is given to children of members of the congregation of the First Presbyterian Church, where Dr. Gishler served for 30 years.  This year’s recipients are Ji Eun Hong, Haram Ko, Sunwoo Lee, Lauren Linder, and Betsy Varner.

  
    

 

Ji Eun Hong will graduate from Burris High School.  She is the daughter of Jong Koo Hong and Hye Ja Ko.  Her church activities include Korean Church Orchestra and Korean Language School.  Ji Eun plans to attend Ball State University to study telecommunication and management.

 

The son of Kwangok Kim, Haram Ko plans to study chemistry or biology at Taylor University following graduation from Burris.  Haram is a member of the church orchestra and youth Bible study group. 

 

 Sunwoo Lee, the son of Myungku Lee and Hyejung Lee Cho, is graduating from Indiana Academy of Science and Mathematics.  Sunwoo has served as the organist for the Korean Congregation and as assistant organist for the American congregation.  He will attend Indiana University and double major in pre-med and music performance (pipe organ).

 

Lauren Linder will study dance and Spanish at the University of Iowa.  She is an active member of the youth group and has served on four mission trips.  She also served as a youth deacon.  Lauren is the daughter of John and Dana Linder.

 

The daughter of Steve and Tammy Varner, Betsy Varner will graduate from Yorktown High School and will attend Manchester College in the fall to study psychology.  She has served the church as a member of the youth group, as a youth deacon, and has participated in five mission trips.  

 

 

Nancy J. Mannies Scholarship Awarded at  First Presbyterian Church



Will Spengler has been awarded the Nancy J. Mannies Scholarship from First Presbyterian Church.  Spengler participated in three youth mission trips and various youth group activities.  In the fall, Will plans to attend Indiana University to study exercise science.  Will is the son of Paul and Polly Spengler.
