We begin a new time of growth by focusing on the apostle Paul and
his letters, or a significant part of the New Testament. To appreciate
Paul, we must understand not only his theological message, but the cultural
issues that threatened to destroy the early church. Indeed, we cannot
fully appreciate Paul's message of salvation until we understand how
counter-cultural he was. We will cover a wide range of topics in a manner
that deepens and excites faith. Biblical themes such as the righteousness of
God, new life in Christ, the Church as the people of God, life in the Spirit,
will be among the seeds that will sprout in our midst. Historical issues such
as slavery, gender relationships, Greek philosophy, Jewish legalism, the great
future (you will love this one), sensual enjoyment, and self image will also be
mined for gold. We ask that you read I and II Corinthians, I and II
Thessalonians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Romans (at least
twice), I and II Timothy, and Philemon. I will be excited to be with you
for this experience.
