Hello, all,

I wanted to let you know about the upcoming opportunities for youth trips in 2009.

First, as you might already know, the mission trip to Xocenpich, Mexico, is planned for March 21-28, 2009.  This trip falls over spring break for the local schools, except Burris.  To encourage youth participation, the church pastoral staff has agreed to cover expenses of $500 for every youth that goes on the trip.  If you are interested and want to learn more, let me know (or contact Carrie Jo).

Second, we will plan, as is our custom, a mission trip for junior and senior high students.  Dates and destination are yet to be determined, but I believe the trip will cost around $200 per youth.

Third, we will plan on spending a week in June or July at the Montreat Conference Center, Montreat, North Carolina.  This trip will be for high school students only (this includes incoming freshmen and graduated seniors).  The Montreat Conference Center, as a mission center of the PC(USA),”seeks to glorify God by serving the whole Church of Jesus Christ by calling all God’s people to a place set apart, for spiritual commitment and renewal, to grow in discipleship, to build relationships, and to prepare one another for Christ’s ministry in the world.”  The “World on Fire” youth conference program fee is $224 plus transportation.  To learn more, visit www.montreat.org.  We will spend time together as a group, but will also be meeting new friends from across the country as we are divided into small groups for workshops and worship experiences.

I am hoping to have the dates for the youth mission trip and for Montreat sometime next month.  I’ll keep you posted so you can get things on your calendar.  If you have suggestions for a destination/focus for the youth mission trip, let me hear from you!
