This month marks the 25th anniversary of the incorporation of Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana. Forty-five million pounds of food ago this organization was formed to be a liaison between the food industry and programs providing food assistance to people in need.

First Presbyterian Church started a new mission project by joning Kid's Hope.  We now have 25 members involved in mentoring 2nd grade students at Southview Elementary chool. Carrie Jo Miller is our Coordinator for this project.

Our nine mentors began working with their second grade students the week of Jan. 20. We have six substitute mentors and nine prayer partners to support the mentors and children, but we also ask for prayers from all of you. Please pray for happy matches between mentor and child and a helping friendship between the two.

From The First Presbyterian Church 2007 Annual Report
(The following is an excerpt from the report.)

In 2007 we continued financial support to
401 Kids, A Better Way, Big Brothers/Sisters, Board of Deacons, Boy Scout Troop #25, Caring Arts, Children's Clothing Center, Christian Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, Harvest Soup Kitchen, Holiday Food Baskets, Hillcroft Center, MOMS, Pastoral Care Fund, Rebuilding Together, Salvation Army Food Pantry, South Madison Community Center, Wayside Mission, YMCA and YWCA.

The members of our congregation donated literally thousands of hours to several of these organizations including Harvest Soup Kitchen through our monyhly Cooking Project, Salvation Army Food Pantry, Christian Misistries Food Pantry, Christian Ministries Sleeping Room, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army Bell Ringing and Holiday Food Baskets.  In addition more than 150 gifts were donated and distributed through our Giving Tree.

National Mission - We bought and transported furniture and matresses to Hurricane Katrina victima who were finally able to relocate into permenent housing. We also donated Christmas presents to a Hurricane Katrina victim's family.

We hosted Presbytery Mission Fair on October 20, 2007.

International Mission- We organized member giving to the Heifer Project, Blanket Sunday and One Great Hour of Sharing.  We also returned in spring 2007 to Xocepich, Mexico.
