Clell W. Douglass, 86
MUNCIE - Clell W. Douglass, 86, well known Muncie insurance agent, died Monday afternoon, April 21, 2008, in Westminster Health Center.
He was born in Bangor, MI, came to the Muncie area as a child with his parents, Elmer and Jessie Andrews Douglass, graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1940, later served with the Air Force during WWII, and spent most of his life in this area.
Mr. Douglass was a General Agent with American United Life from 1956 until his retirement in 1998.
Clell was a member of Hazelwood Christian Church for more than forty-nine years and a lifetime and qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table.
He was also a Muncie Kiwanis Club, Muncie Junto Club, Chamber of Commerce, Muncie Lodge #33, F & A M, and Honorary member of the Muncie Rotary Club. He also served on the boards of Ball Memorial Hospital, First Merchants Bank, Delaware Advancement Corporation, and was active with several other community boards. Mr. Douglass was a recipient of the Horatio Alger Award.
Surviving are his wife of more than sixty-four years, Norma Jean (Phillips) Douglass; two sons, C. Richard Douglass (wife, Melinda) and Jay Scott Douglass (wife, Melanie) his sister, Inez Pratt; four grandchildren, Leigh Renshaw (husband, Denny), Alison, Lisa and Tammy Douglass; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2008 in Hazelwood Christian Church with Rev. Colby Smith and Dr. David Cartwright officiating. Friends may call at the church from Noon until service time on Friday.
Memorials may be directed in lieu of flowers to the Hazelwood Christian Church, the Ball Memorial Hospital foundation or the Muncie Public Library.
The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
