Muncie - Muncie—Jessie “Juanita” Tipton, 82, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011, at Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

She was born September 13, 1928, in Jamestown, Tennessee, the daughter of John H and Bernetta (Cooper) Crabtree and graduated from The York Institute in 1947. Juanita moved to Muncie in 1948, where she was a homemaker and a very active member of Corinth Congregational Christian Church. Her memberships included Ladies Aid, Muncie Light Horse Club, and she served as a volunteer for many years at Ball Memorial Hospital. Juanita loved gardening, cooking, and traveling. Juanita was extremely devoted to her family.

Survivors include her three children, Steven Michael Tipton (Sheila Burke), Sonia M. Kozicki (Don), and Dawna T. Needler (Monte); her grandchildren, Trace Michael Tipton, Seattle Washington, and Kent Alan Needler (Susan), St. Louis, Missouri; also surviving are her special nieces and nephew, Celeste Early, Vonda Neil, and Greg Early, and her beloved dog, Macy.

She was preceded in death by her husband Billy B. Tipton; her parents; two brothers, Von P. Crabtree, and James Crabtree; and a sister, Eula Early.

Services will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Pastor Junior Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Corinth Congregational Church’s building fund, 8009 North County Road 500 West, Muncie, Indiana 47304.
