Muncie - Rosemary Gishler passed away Saturday,
February 20, 2010, from congestive heart failure at
the age of 88.

She spent her last few months of life in Granite Bay,
California, living with her daughter Kim and family
since mid November 2009.

She had a very loving and comfortable passing with
the help of the local Hospice group, and was nursed
until her death by her daughters in a loving and
nurturing atmosphere in Kimberly's home.

Rosemary was born on March 31, 1921 to Hazel
Wright Walter and Harry C. Walter of Mooreland,
Indiana and was one of five children. Her youngest
brother Leland Walter of Indianapolis is her only
living sibling.

The family moved to Muncie, where Rosemary
attended and graduated from Muncie Central High
School. She went on to Ball State University majoring
in Art, English and Theatre. During college, she was
very active in Muncie's Civic Theatre.

After graduating from Ball State, she taught Art for
two years at Montpelier High School then traveled to
New York City, where she studied art and clothing
design at Parson's School of Design for one
summer.

In 1943, she met the late Reverend Lewis Weber
Gishler, the minister then of the First United
Presbyterian Church of Muncie and married him in
1946. They were married until his death in 1985
and had 7 girls, 5 are still living.

Lew and Rosemary owned and operated a children's
camp in the state of New York in the 50's and 60's,
for a total of 15 years during the summers.

In 1967, Rosemary returned to Ball State University
to get her Counseling degree and principal's
license. She became a Guidance Counselor at Albany
and Delta Schools.

After Lew's death, she and her daughter, Ann, ran
the ReMax Realty Plus real estate office in Muncie for
20 years, prior to her retirement.

Rosemary was a very loving and understanding
mother; always supportive and willing to listen
without judging.

She is survived by her five daughters, Sue Stickney
(husband, Matt of Rancho Cordova, California), Ann
Gishler (Muncie), Jeannie Tschantz (and husband,
Tim of Nevada City, California), Lori Van Atta
(husband, Derek, sons, David, 19 and Peter, 17 of
Durango, Colorado), and Kimberley Johnson
(husband, Rob and son, Logan, 11 of Granite Bay
California).

A Memorial Service will be held in her honor on
Saturday, March 6 at 10:00 a.m. at the First
Presbyterian Church on Riverside Ave. in Muncie,
led by Reverend Ron Naylor.

The family would like friends and family to donate to your favorite charity
or make a donation to Haiti in lieu of flowers.

The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington
Street Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
