September 4, 2008 MUNCIE - Ruth VanderLaan Halberg, 90, passed away Monday, September 1, 2008 at Westminster Village Health Care. She was born in Cedar Grove, WI the daughter of D. A. VanderLaan and Alice (Meinen) VanderLaan, graduated from Sheboygan High School in Sheboygan, WI in 1936, and from the University of Wisconsin in 1940. Following her marriage to Robert Halberg in 1940, the couple lived in Detroit, MI and DesPlains, IL, before coming to Muncie, IN in 1968. Mrs. Halberg was active many years as a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder; Psi Iota Xi, Alpha Chapter and a past board member of the YWCA. Mrs. Halberg is survived by several nieces and nephews, William VanderLaan (wife, Marquita), Susan Burgess (husband, Al), Marsh Halberg (wife, Jo Ann) and William Halberg (wife, Liz); great-nieces and nephews, Anna, Chris, Connie, Drew, Juli, Lauren, Lisa, Mark, Ryan, and Tammy; ten great-great nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Bette Halberg. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert in 1977; and a brother, Earl VanderLaan; a sister, Joyce VanderLaan. Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2008 with Dr. Ron Naylor officiating. Burial will later at Union Cemetery in Oostburg, WI. Friends may call at the First Presbyterian Church from 1;00 p.m. until time of service on Friday, September 5, 2008. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, 1400 W.
