Muncie-The Rev. John W. Ridder, 87, died January 16, 2011, at Westminster Village. He was born June 17, 1923, in Bayonne, New Jersey, the son of John E. and Medora Ridder. Raised in Fort Plain, New York, he was married on June 16, 1946, to Jane Allen Acker who preceded him in death in 2005. During WWII, he served as a communications sergeant with the US Army in Europe. He earned a BA degree from Syracuse University in 1946. He received a Master of Divinity degree from Colgate-Rochester Divinity School in 1957. As an Episcopal priest, he served as Vicar of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church 1957-1963, Rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Columbus, Indiana, 1963-1966; and Christ Episcopal Church in Madison, IN 1966-1976. He also served as Chaplain at Madison State Hospital from 1976-1991. After retirement, he moved to Las Vegas, New Mexico, serving as minister at St. Paul’s Peace Church until 2003. In early 2010 he returned to Indiana to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He is survived by daughters, Christina Bowles, (husband-John H. Bowles), Muncie; Medora Kennedy, Kokomo; one son, John E. A. Ridder, (wife-Gail), Indianapolis; three grandsons, Andrew Kennedy, Kokomo; John R. Bowles, Chicago; and Matthew Ridder, Indianapolis; two granddaughters, Laura Bowles, Rochester Hills, Michigan; and Melissa Ridder, Indianapolis; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2011, at Grace Episcopal Church, 300 S. Madison St., Muncie. Interment will be at St Luke’s Episcopal Church, Chardon, Ohio, at a later date. Family and friends may call from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, 415 E. Washington, Muncie, IN 47305.
