Muncie - Muncie - William (Bill) Creviston, 88, passed away Sunday evening, February 20, 2011 at Westminster Health Care.

He was born on May 12, 1922 in Muncie the son of Van and Ethel (Cunnington) Creviston and graduated from Cowan High School. He enlisted in the US Army in 1942, 95th Infantry, 320th Combat Engineering Unit. He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for heroic achievement in Ukrange, France. Over 80% of his unit perished in this battle at the Moselle River. He was one of the “Iron Men of Metz” and was in the Battle of the Bulge as well. He was honored at the Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Moselle River, France.

Mr. Creviston attended Penn State and Georgetown University and obtained his Indiana Professional Engineering License in 1953. He worked for Indiana Bridge Company and Nashville Bridge Co. and founded Creviston Steel Company in Cowan. In 1971, he and his wife Joan began Design, Products and Services. He designed many buildings and offices in the community, but became known for his expertise and innovations in the glass furnace Industry. He worked in twenty-six States and on six continents.

He was a past member of the Columbia Club, Indianapolis, the Delaware Country Club, Amvets, Elks and the Moose Clubs. He was actively involved with the annual reunion of the 95th Infantry, which was a very important part of his life. He was a beloved husband and father. His love of aviation led him to become a private pilot, flying his own planes. His love of travel led him around the world. He shared his love of science, history, art, music, dance, writing, travel, poetry and the environment with his family. He was on the Board of Sanitary Commissioners under both Republican and Democratic administrations. As such, he worked hard to clean up the White River, and he and wife Joan donated 60 wooded acres to the Hoosier National Forest. He often said that he had no regrets for things not done because he had done the things he loved.

Survivors include five daughters, Carol Hartmeyer (husband, John), Muncie, Elizabeth Creviston, Charlotte, NC, Maggi Hoyt (husband, Mark), Muncie, Katie Wagner (husband, Jack), Houston, Texas, Connie Turner (husband, Joe), Muncie, IN. sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Judy Garrett (husband, Bill), Phoenix, AZ, and Drexal Jenkinson (husband, Louis), Anna, IL and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Joan Carey Creviston, a daughter, Laura, a granddaughter, Laurie, his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Services will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, February 25, 2011 in The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Pastor Carrie Jo Miller officiating and Military Rites by Veterans of Delaware County. Cremation will follow.

Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 4:00 until 6:00 pm on Friday.
