Michael D. Wolter, 59 
MUNCIE - Michael D. Wolter, age 59, passed away Thursday September 20, 2007 at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born November 27, 1947 in Muncie, Indiana and was a life long resident. He graduated from Muncie Central High School, Ball State University with a Bachelors Degree and went on to graduate with his Masters from the University of Minnesota.
He was a teacher for 39 years. He taught physics and math at Northside and Muncie Central and was an adjunct faculty member at Ivy Tech and Ball State University.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, member of the American Association of Physics Teachers, and a volunteer for the American Red Cross.
He has received many honors, during his teaching career. He was awarded Pi Lambda Theta, National Education Honorary, Outstanding Indiana High School Physics Teacher, VIVA Education Award, United Way recognition, American Red Cross Exceptional volunteer Award, American Red Cross Hall of Fame Award, Muncie Teachers Association Distinguished service Award, Boy Scouts of America District Award of Merit, Nominee for Presidential Award in Science Teaching, Sigma Pi Sigma, National Physics Honorary, 2003 RadioShack National Science Teacher, 2004-5 President Indiana Section of American Association of Physics Teachers, and in 2007 American Association of Physics Teachers State and National Distinguished Service Awards. Also in 2007, in honor of his years of service the American Red Cross has, established a new award: The Michael Wolter Volunteer Award.
Michael will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Linda E. (Ashley) Wolter; mother, Mildred (Adams) Wolter; 5 children, Patrick (wife, Cari) Wolter, Kelley (husband, Sean) Deak, Penny (husband, Ken) Bost, Steve (wife, Mandy) Auker, and Kim (husband, Rex) Stonecipher; one sister, Jackie (husband, Skip) Powers; one brother, Charles (wife, Patricia Kehoe) Wolter; 16 grandchildren; and 2 nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, William D. Wolter.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church in Muncie with one hour of calling prior to the service with Rev. Ron Naylor officiating.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 21, 2007 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
