Deacons are elected to conduct the temporal and charitable ministry of the church. Leadership: Carrie Jo Miller, Pastor Dave Jewett
The Board of Deacons provides service to our congregation through regular duties and special events. Service of the Ministry of Presence includes hospital, nursing home and retirement center visitation.
Ongoing responsibilities of the Deacons include:
* Monthly meetings for devotions and planning
* Weekly ushering, collecting the ofering, preparing the sanctuary for service, providing coffee and doughnuts, and straightening and closing up the sanctuary after each service.
* Stocking the pews with appropriate books, literature, envelopes and pencils.
* Supervision of transportation by the church van for people in need.
* Coordination of the altar flowers.
* Ministry of Presence
* Communication via bulletins and The Columns about the Deacons and their events.
Special events hosted by The Deacons other items of interest include:
* Habitat for Humanity:
First Pres worked on a Habitat house during VBS (Vacation Bible School) week.
* 20th Annual First Presbyterian Golf/Dinner/Auction Gishler Scholarship event: August 4 & 5 - the event raised $8,439.00.
* The Deacons prepared a meal (to serve about 150 people) for the Harvest Soup Kitchen in March.
* Formulated prayer chain instructions which were distributed with the 207 church directory.
* Used $500.00 from Missions committee to purchase meals during Habitat week; and to provide financial assistance to the First Presbyterian Pre-K and local military family.
