This fall Mariners
will discuss the person and the work of the Holy Spirit. God the Holy Spirit's
personhood, while fully divine, has analogies to that of our own humanity. The
Spirit, like us, has intelligence and wisdom, redeeming power, will, gift-giving
ability, and above all love for the Bride of Christ. The Holy Spirit works
first to save us, then lead and guide us in all truth, and then finally to
redeem the image of God within us, an image that has been badly distorted. This
remaking of the image of God within us is why we want to follow Christ. To
understand the Holy Spirit more fully, we will attempt to plummet the depths of
both the Old and the New Testaments. We have two simple requests if you are
thinking of attending this class. First I ask that people make a sustained
effort to attend the class as the continuity of the class is crucial. Second,
I ask that you come with an open mind. The mainline church, and we as
Presbyterians specifically, have not been as open as we could be to ALL of the
facets of the person and the work of the Holy Spirit. Thus, we have robbed
ourselves of a more substantial faith. Mariners will begin on Sunday September
13th and will meet in Fellowship Hall (located in the church basement) at 9:45
AM. All are welcome.
