First Presbyterian Church’s Officer Nominating Process

Leadership matters when everything is going well and leadership matters when everything is difficult. We are grateful for those who have served on our Session and Board of Deacons, and we lift up a prayer for those God is calling to continue the important leadership of our congregation through service on one of these two boards.

Officers are elected to serve a three-year term and are eligible to serve two terms in succession. For the coming terms, there are vacancies on both the Session and the Board of Deacons. Each board has a different purpose. Deacons are called to be the hands and heart of the congregation, reaching out in care and concern for the people of the church. They support the worship and fellowship of the church as well as lifting up those who are in need. Our Elders watch over the mission and ministry of the congregation. They guide First Presbyterian in our ongoing work as well as envision where God is calling us to go next.

As you are discerning who you might recommend for one of these positions, you are invited to read 1Timothy 3:1-15 and Titus 1:6-9. Here we begin to see the qualities of leaders that God calls to these particular positions. You are also invited to pray that God will direct us to those members who will best serve God’s purpose on each of our boards.

There is much to be excited about here at First Presbyterian. The next three years have many wonderful possibilities and deep needs. If we are going to live into the hope that we all have - the hope that God has for us - then it will take strong and courageous leadership as we walk into this future together.

First Presbyterian is a large church which means, among many other things, that new members can easily get lost unless they join a smaller group such as Choir, study groups, weekly weeders or they become involved in one of the many volunteer options available from our church in some capacity. Being a large church also means that we need lots of volunteers to keep everything running smoothly!

For your convenience, all volunteer opportunities have been broken down subject in the side menu.  Please feel free to locate a group or volunteer activity that meets your needs.  Each page is complete with contact information.  Should you have general questions or need help locating a specific activity, please Contact Us.
